Preparing for the Workforce

Career Services offers comprehensive career planning support to graduate students and alumni by:

Helping them gain skills they can use throughout their lifetime
Empowering them to proactively manage their career
Assisting them to conduct a thorough self-assessment (clarifying values, interests, skills, and personality preferences)
Providing access to occupational, job search, labor market, and graduate school information
Teaching job search skills and strategies to enable them to conduct successful targeted job searches
Collaborating with employers to cultivate strong relationships that result in challenging employment opportunities that satisfy employer needs
Encouraging employers to engage with us by participating in career services events, informal class presentations and company project assignments for our students

Securing Care and Addressing Needs

The Student Wellness CARE office is committed to providing information, support, and advocacy to empower students to resolve concerns that may act as a barrier to retention, progression, and graduation. In addition, the office, when needed, acts as a liaison between students and university personnel in a fair and impartial manner regarding students rights and university policies/regulations.

Reasons to contact the office:

I have a question/problem and I don't know how to solve it.
I've tried to resolve a concern and haven't been successful.
I'm dealing with a major life issue which is impacting my success.
I would like to know my rights in a situation pertaining to the university.
I need help with basic needs (e.g., housing, food, transportation, finances).

Reporting Concerns

Salem State is committed to keeping our campus safe and our students well. To this end, individuals from across multiple areas work together to respond to reports and coordinate resources for Reporting concerns.

What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. Title IX also covers sexual violence and reminds schools of their responsibilities to take immediate and effective steps to respond to sexual violence.

Salem State University will not tolerate sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence or stalking in any form.
All faculty and staff are trained and many are required to report to support student and protect community.
All students have rights and resources.

What is VAWA?

VAWA stands for the Violence Against Women Act. VAWA addresses and prohibits acts of violence motivated by gender. As reauthorized in 2013, VAWA incorporated the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (“SaVe Act”). The SaVe Act clarifies the rights of victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence or stalking on college and university campuses. The SaVe Act requires the universities to implement several substantive and procedural changes regarding claims of gender violence.
